Since 2007 a group of staff and students from Britain's Leeds Metropolitan University has come to Kaliandra every year to work on volunteering projects. So far, they've built two playgrounds in nearby villages, taught English and hospitality skills to Kaliandra staff and school-teachers, helped with marketing and promotion, constructed an innovative composting toilet at Kaliandra and a standard one in a local village, taught guiding skills, developed many of the walking tours and other holidays around Kaliandra - and generally had a wonderful time!Â
Sometimes people love it so much they just can't bear to leave! Some of the Leeds Met team have stayed on for several weeks - you can read about the experiences of one of them here. And there's some really talented people amongst them - watch a video about the 2009 trip here. (And since you ask, they're building a toilet block!)
