Since 2007 a group of staff and students from Britain's Leeds Metropolitan University has come to Kaliandra every year to work on volunteering projects. So far, they've built two playgrounds in nearby villages, taught English and hospitality skills to Kaliandra staff and school-teachers, helped with marketing and promotion, constructed an innovative composting toilet at Kaliandra and a standard one in a local village, taught guiding skills, developed many of the walking tours and other holidays around Kaliandra - and generally had a wonderful time!
